Zocor

Zocor is for decreasing high cholesterol and triglycerides. The drug raises high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. You should follow a special diet while using this medicine. It is also recommended to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and death because of coronary heart disease. The treatment is useful in decreasing the need for medical procedures to open blood vessels. It prevents patients from the risk of blood vessel blockage, heart attack, stroke, or chest pain due to angina. You can take this medication in other cases if advised by the doctor.

Zocor falls into the group of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors ("statin"). Acting in the body it slows the production of fatty substances, including cholesterol.

You cannot use Zocor if you have ever had allergic reaction to an ingredient in it or if you use ketoconazole, itraconazole, mibefradil, nefazodone, an HIV protease inhibitor, telithromycin, and such macrolide antibiotics as clarithromycin and erythromycin. Pregnant, breast-feeding women, patients with liver disorders or abnormal liver function tests are not to be treated with the given medication.
