Clomipramine treats symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder which is abbreviated as OCD. Among them recurrent feelings and thoughts followed by repetitive actions.
Some chemicals in the brain due to some circumstances can become unbalanced and Clomipramine normalizes them. It works as tricyclic antidepressant.
But it also can be taken for some other purposes if advised by a doctor.

Clomipramine is inappropriate for people who have recently suffered from a heart attack, who have had MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. They are the following: rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate). The drug is also forbidden for patients with allergic reactions to it as well as to medications similar to Clomipramine. These are amoxapine (Ascendin), amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), doxepin (Sinequan), desipramine (Norpramin), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil). The same concerns nortriptyline (Pamelor) and protriptyline (Vivactil), trimipramine (Surmontil).

It was noticed that people begin to think about suicide during the first period of medication. Most frequent cases were among people under 24 years of age. It is recommended to check regularly with your doctor for 12 weeks since the beginning of treatment.

Noticed any strange symptoms contact the doctor immediately. It can be changes in mood or behavior, trouble sleeping, anxiety, panic attacks. You should also check with the specialist if you become agitated, impulsive, irritable, aggressive, hostile, hyperactive, more depressed, or start hurting yourself and thinking about suicide.
